Cate Cummings

Hello! My name is Catherine Cummings, but most everyone calls me Cate. I am a family nurse practitioner (MSN, Herzing University, 2016) licensed in the states of Texas, Colorado, and Idaho. I am a chiropractor (DC, New York Chiropractic College, 1986) licensed in Texas, Colorado, and Idaho, and I am also a licensed acupuncturist (MAOM, Academy of Oriental Medicine, 2008) in the states of Texas and Idaho. I became a certified functional medicine practitioner through the Institute of Functional Medicine in 2013, and a ReCODE 2.0 Certified Practitioner in 2021.

BWC for Horse Lovers is my telehealth functional medicine practice (a DBA of Bluebonnet Wellness Center, PLLC) under which I am practicing SOLELY as a licensed family nurse practitioner in Texas, Colorado, and Idaho. In BWC For Horse Lovers I am not practicing as a chiropractor or licensed acupuncturist.

I started riding at age 10 and that began my lifelong love of horses. I currently have two beautiful horses who were born on my ranch in Texas several years ago. Together, we are students of the Ecole de Legerete (aka The School of Lightness), a method of French Dressage. My excellent teacher of this riding method is Brenda Crist from Dickerson, Maryland ([email protected]). Now I am in my 60’s. I hope to keep riding for a very long time to come. To help make that a reality I work on my health every day through personalized functional medicine principles that I have found to be highly effective over the years. I would love to help other horse people optimize their health so that they too can enjoy their horses (or whatever else they would like to do) longer and more fully.

I know that health is a dynamic journey over time and not a final destination. We will encounter many challenges throughout our lives which impact the quality of our health.  Believe me-I have been through a bunch of health challenges myself! I am very grateful that I am still here to help empower others to find their way through their unique health challenges, and where appropriate, to optimize their health in ways they may not have thought possible.

I believe it is wonderful when you can work with a health care provider who understands where you are coming from, what you absolutely want to do with your time here on Earth, and who will work conscientiously and devotedly to help guide and empower you to reach your health goals. I love to help people reach their health goals and then I love to help them maintain their health and wellness goals over time. That is how we can keep having fun with our horses, because we feel so good ourselves!

If you are a horse lover and would like to work with a health care provider trained in a highly personalized functional medicine approach to health optimization, a provider who understands your love of horses and who knows how hard you work with and for your horses, then you may be interested in finding out how my Health Coach team and I can help you realize your personal health goals so that you can be the happiest, healthiest horse person possible! 😊

I am honored to be working in collaboration with the following Health Coaches who are also devoted horsewomen! I feel very blessed to have them on my team and I am sure you will find them to be excellent at helping you reach and maintain your health goals as well!

Deb Cox

Hi, my name is Deb and I am one of the Health Coaches here at BWC for Horse Lovers. I am very blessed to be part of this amazing and creative team. I am originally from Iowa and my farming roots run deep – no matter where I’ve planted myself, I always find dirt to grow something in!

I am an avid gardener and love to share gardening tips and stories, and help others find joy in the dirt!

My love of horses began at a very young age. With the encouragement of my neighbor, my parents bought my first horse when I was 9, and I’ve never been without at least one in over 40 years.

Raising and training horses has been a great grounding force in my life; teaching me life lessons in humility, honesty, grace, and unconditional love, and of course having a sense of humor. My husband and I raise and train working cow horses and currently have five mares in all stages of training.

I am a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach, with certification as a Functional Medicine Health Coach through FMCA. After years (25+) of working as a Medical Technologist in hospitals and outpatient labs in Iowa, Montana, and Nevada, I have seen the good and not so good of our current healthcare system.

My passion, as a Health Coach, is to help you find ways to optimize and maintain your health so you may find hope, joy and peace in a life well-lived! I understand the special bond we develop with our horses, and the desire to enjoy them, for lack of a better term, forever!

I will work with you to build resiliency through a strong foundation. Just like we train our horses to have a strong foundation, we need one for ourselves. I will be here to offer encouragement, education, and compassionate accountability, we will meet every obstacle with courage, and we will celebrate every success along the way.

I look forward to meeting you! You can learn more about me at: www.awakenhealthinyou.com

Melanie Rathbun

Hi there! My name is Melanie. I became a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach through the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy. I have a keen interest in the principles of Functional Medicine, and enabling clients to maximize their health potential. It was through my own health challenges since childhood that I discovered Functional Medicine as an adult and when I most needed it. I couldn’t be more grateful for how that discovery transformed my health and life for the better.

I grew up around horses, always finding ways that I could be with them and interact with them. I rode Western, then in my later years, I decided to try English riding and thoroughly enjoy it. My love for horses has always been very real, and for the years that my life switched into a city-living corporate lifestyle, I deeply missed it. After marrying, and having babies, I promised myself I would return to this passion, and here I am! Coming back as an adult rider I have experienced the fears and uncertainties that come with age. I feel confident knowing that I can trust my body to do what I require it to do in order to be agile and strong in both body and mind.

Through individual lifestyle and behavioral modifications, living a long and happy life with your horse as Cate mentioned is possible! I look forward to hearing your story and what you hope to achieve through BWC For Horse Lovers. We are here to support you.
